Professional Artwork From My Studies at KCAD
"I Made This For You"
8.5" by 11"
Intaglio print
This print was prompted by objects of the mundane. As educators, we are gifted countless drawings that become the ordinary, but to the students who created them, they are a big deal. These masterpieces are given to us as a sign of trust, love, and gratitude. Even though these gifts could be regarded as another paper added to the clutter, they should be cherished.

BADLANDS

Screenprint on poster board
This artwork encapsulates multiple disciplines of art. I took photos in person at the Badlands, combined two of my favorites in photoshop, simplified the shapes in illustrator, and finally screenprinted it in nine layers. This print represents the establishment of the must-see national park.

The Process Part I
Collagraph and collage on kitakata paper

Neuroscience is one of my personal interests as it correlates directly with education. For the duration of this project, I studied microscopic functions that take place in the brain during the learning process. I visually communicated them through collagraph and collage.

Reflection

Color reduction woodcut on kitakata paper
I chose to depict lotus flowers because these plants thrive in thick mud. This symbolizes how I am compelled to persevere through the hardest of challenges, even the ones that drag me through the dirt. I chose a light blue ink to convey my calm and quiet temperament. I decided to keep the chatter marks or static in the center as it engages the empty space and carries the viewer’s eyes from plant to plant.

Pen on drawing paper
This is an illustration from a photo I took of an antique shop in Savannah, Georgia. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city, and each level is filled from floor to ceiling with lost treasures. Each object has its own story to tell as does the building.

Haiku
Digital art created utilizing Illustrator
The haiku reads:
"Just like a canvas
But with the absence of paint
A painted turtle"

Creative Growth

The objective of this project was to investigate the topic of “growth”. It was a study of the difference between painting on hot press and cold press paper.

Repurposed Sewing Stool
The challenge of this project was to find an old piece of furniture and use every single material that came with it to create the final product. The first step was to find my furniture and choose my subject. The second step was to deconstruct my stool to see what supplies I had to work with. From here, I drew the animal to scale in order to make a pattern. I then constructed then sewed the remaining fabric before using foam to sculpt the head, feet, and tail.

Functional Forms
Ceramics
For the duration of this project, I was focused on making ceramics that had a function in a specific environment. Utilizing hand-building techniques I created abstract forms that would house lightbulbs after firing. I learned how to wire them so that they would work as intended.
